Sex, lies, and hypocrisy

THE video of the year is out and it contains what is deemed as the scandals= of the decade: Dr. Hayden Kho, separately engaged in misguided yet still passionate act of fornication with movie star Katrina Halili.

The issue has become so huge in the Philippines, a number of senators, most specifically, Senator Ramon Revilla, Jr., raised red flags in one swooping display of moral superiority over everyone who indulges in similar acts.

For millions of pornography aficionados, the material that spread across the world wide web showing Dr. Kho and Ms. Halili doing quality time is not even considered watch-able even in the amateur/voyeur genre of porn.
In fact, it could be branded as sub-par. True, we can see the two celebrities having a grand time, but we can’t really see them well, can we? If Dr. Kho has something to learn about this episode in his life, he has to learn proper lighting.
But sarcasm aside, Dr. Kho made a big mistake shooting his escapades without informing his conquest. If he had told Halili that he plans to have a camera capture the precious moments, it wouldn’t have been as messy as this. But the fact that he hid this crucial information to his partner makes him what Senator Bong is accusing him of being: A pervert.

Yes, Dr. Kho is without a doubt a pervert and the women he slept with are certainly sorry for ever hooking up with him. These women entrusted their most intimate secrets to him, yet he betrayed them by stabbing these women behind their backs or more accurately, shooting them behind their backs.

In the past, we have seen numerous bomba, bold, ST, and TT films in movie theaters, betamax, VHS, VCD, and DVD. But how come there was no uproar then? In a film called “Syota ng Bayan”, Pricilla Almeda did full frontal nudity on top of a jeep while Tonton Gutierrez performed oral sex and copulation with her in broad daylight and in full production. This is an actual commercially released film in the late 90s. It is still out on video yet nobody is passing anti-perversion bills in the Senate or House. Nobody cares. It’s just entertainment–sexual entertainment that is.

Obviously, there is a difference between the Kho video and Syota ng Bayan. The difference is consent. Halili was not aware of the filming, while Almeda got paid to do the shoot. With that difference, Halili has all the right to pursue Dr. Kho for all he’s worth. If he’s worth anything at all. He clearly violated her and deserves to rot wherever it is the law sends him to.

With all things considered, however, these politicians should not complain about the video’s indecency nor judge the morality of Katrina Halili. It’s just sex, senators. Grow up.
But they can judge Dr. Kho all they want for secretly filming, for allegedly distributing the videos and for being a sick maniac that he really is.

Yet the fact remains that there are more indecent things out there than the Hayden Kho videos. Indecent things that these politicians themselves are even a part of.

As Michael Corleone famously said to a corrupt Nevada senator who accused Corleone of being a gangster in the Godfather part 2: “ Senator, aren’t we all part of the same hypocrisy?”
