NEW YORK – Ground-breaking hip-hop group Deep Foundation, comprised of emcees MUG Shot, ILL Poetik, CJ, and Proseed, brings their distinctive sound to Vesta on Saturday, October 25, at 9:00 p.m, as they perform songs from their debut album, “The First Draft”. Deep Foundation emerged in 2001 as a group of diverse performers with a similar cause—to further the advancement of Filipino culture in the mainstream media through hip-hop. Guest performers for this event include vocalist Ashley Robles and emcee Hydroponikz.

Deep Foundation is unlike any other underground hip-hip group out there. This group defies any stereotype you try to place upon it, whether cultural or musical. Unlike conventional hip-hop of today, Deep Foundation mixes standard East-coast, hip-hop swagger with an underlying sense of cultural pride and thoughtfulness. The result is a rousing new sound that breaks through the confines of musical genres. Songs from this album feature such artists as Jay Legaspi, Nomi of Power Struggle, and Kiwi, formerly of Native Guns.

Since its inception seven years ago, Deep Foundation has performed at universities, fund-raisers, and clubs across the nation. More impressively, the group has made appearances on television shows here in the States and in the Philippines. Deep Foundation has garnered much attention and respect not only from the Filipino-American community, but from fellow underground hip-hop artists and music lovers alike. With every performance, their following has grown significantly. Deep Foundation’s boom-bap-era-influenced brand of hip-hop incorporates reflective, serious, and at times, humorous narratives of their upbringings and daily struggles. “The First Draft” presents 15 songs, each retelling Deep Foundation’s pride in their shared Filipino culture, set to the music of East coast hip-hop.
