Filipina Jazz Singer Does It Again: Charmaine Clamor Headed For World Music Charts

LOS ANGELES - The official monitor of jazz radio airplay in America, JazzWeek, announced today that Filipino-American vocalist Charmaine Clamor is once again headed for the World Music charts.

In its initial week of release to radio programmers, Charmaine's new CD, My Harana: A Filipino Serenade, is officially listed as "Chartbound" by JazzWeek. This is the first time an album performed entirely in Filipino languages and dialects has earned this honorable distinction. Ms. Clamor's previous CD, Flippin' Out, made both the World Music and Jazz charts, introducing mainstream listeners to "jazzipino," the blending of American jazz with Filipino melodies, languages, and instruments.

"I've made it my artistic mission to bring the beautiful sounds of my birth country, the Philippines, to the entire world," said Ms. Clamor. "Having the languages of my homeland being heard all across America, on radio stations in every state, is tremendously gratifying. I'm inspired to work even harder to promote Pinoy jazz."

My Harana: A Filipino Serenade contains twelve beloved Filipino courtship songs, performed in eight different Filipino tongues. Accompanied by modern and indigenous instruments, including the kulintang and bandurria, Charmaine Clamor's latest creation is earning enthusiastic notices from music critics around the globe. JazzReview wrote, "My Harana: A Filipino Serenade is the quintessential wistful collection of moonlit romances. Ms. Clamor's diversity in craft and expression makes her one of very few that could deliver such a project. This young woman again proves to the industry that she is a polished performer who is on course for a titanic career of iconic measures."
