Qwadra NEW YORK– Qwadra are without a doubt the best Filipino–American hard rock group to come out of Queens in recent memory. They are currently at a stage where they do not need to prove that statement to anyone anymore. Their musicality is rich without being greedy–just right all the time. An the chemistry between Bem Ross, Geomar Fontanilla, Kendal Yabut, and Fritz Ramos is tight but doesn't choke. It allows a freedom among the members to go where they want to go without being over indulgent.
Now, after waiting for some time, their fans will finally enjoy them even more. Qwadra, known to be economical in their releases have finally released their first double-sided single called "Tunay na Kathang Isip" on the billion-selling online music store in the world, ITunes.

Alfa Garcia (Photo by Sheryl Garcia-Reyes) WASHINGTON DC– An annual fundraising event for Philippine charities in Maryland is drawing rave reviews for its surprisingly superb mix of music and magic. On Oct. 25, Feed the Hungry, Gawad Kalinga and the Philippine Foundation for Charities presented the 4th Annual “Alay” Concert at Harmony Hall in Ft. Washington, MD to raise money for victims of the recent floods that devastated parts of the Philippines, including Manila. Previously jaded by run-of-the-mill performances, one could only marvel at the depth of the Filipino talent pool at the Alay concert. The acts were simply fantastic. The “Alay” Concert series has evolved wonderfully from a simple showcase of local talents to a diverse stage of excellent musicians specializing in jazz, rock, folk rock, R&B, and traditional Americana. Award-winning FilAm jazz recording artist Charmaine Clamor flew from Los Angeles to share her style of music, Jazzipino. She dazzled the audience with her laid-back interpretations of Minamahal Kita, Hindi Kita Malimot, Dahil Sa Iyo, and The Nearness of You. The audience was so blown away by Nikki and Ira Gonzales’ rendition of Brazilian bossa nova that some actually thought they were Brazilian and actually spoke Portuguese. Residents of Herndon, VA, the brother/sister duet were born into a musical family, which includes an uncle who was a former Philippine movie star.

PISCATAWAY– On November 7, 2009, the Rutgers Association of Philippine Students (RAPS) will present SUKOB, a talent showcase to benefit those in the Philippines affected by Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana). The Filipino League at Seton Hall (FLASH) and artist collective Sensitive Guys with Guitars (SGWG) are providing additional assistance and talent for the night.
The showcase starts at 7:00PM and is being held at the Aresty Research Center on Rutgers University’s Busch Campus, located on 618 Allison Road, in Piscataway, NJ. The show is open to the public and is $10 or $5 with a donation of medical supplies.
Ondoy brought the worst rainfalls to hit the Metro Manila area in recorded history. Totaling 455mm, the rainfall of Ondoy overshadows even that of Hurricane Katrina, which equaled 250mm. As a result, over 450 people have died, and thousands have been injured.
