NEW YORK– The largest gathering of Filipino bands from all over North America kicked off last night in New York City and went straight into the pages of Filipino-American music history.
Rock in the Box Weekend opening night was everything everyone hoped for it to be: Hot, wild, and overflowing with the spirit of community.
The Rehab in NYC was packed from end to end and the music were as loud as the pounding of everyone's heart as they bear witness to a monumental event. The multitude of people sang, slammed and danced along with great bands from all over the US: Wallows, Blue Mellon pop, Bleud, Bagwis, Sodapop Suicide, John Violago, Jason Castillo, Kayumanggi, Earplug, The Third Element, Indiagos, Lucidblur, and The Kuwagos. The show was hosted by Jeffrey Wiley. The second night of this historic weekend is happening tonight at Crash Mansion(199 Bowery also in New York City). This night will be the album launch of the compilation album 'Rock in the Box 2 and is also guaranteed to equal or even surpass the frenzy of opening night
Tonight, 12 of the 16 bands in the compilation album are performing live along with other great artists as well.
Tickets will only be available at the door for $15.

UPDATE MANILA – The much awaited reunion of Pinoy supergroup, the Eraserheads was cut short last night, August 30 (Manila time) at the Fort Bonifacio Global City, after lead singer Ely Buendia collapsed backstage from an apparent heart attack. This was announced by his sister who went onstage after a 20-minute intermission. Raimund Marasigan also came out onstage, followed by Marcus Adoro and Buddy Zabala who assisted Buendia's sister, according to Jing Garcia, former music journalist and currently technology editor at Manila Times. Garcia, a friend of the former members of the Eraserheads, said Buendia collapsed backstage after singing "Fruitcake," the last song before the 20-minute intermission. Buendia had suffered a previous attack and is reported to be under a lot of stress after his mother died a couple of days before the reunion show. Members of the band went onstage and apologized for the shortened concert. MTV Philippines' Francis Lumen eventually went onstage to ask the audience for a minute of silence. Ely is now to be in stable condition, however, there was no announcement that there will be a 2nd reunion concert.
