Having started her professional recording career in an all female music group called SX4, Chelsea has been working in the competitive world known as the music industry since the age of fifteen. Although promising at first and as fate would have it, the group ended its run shortly after. Determined to keep her dream alive, to move people with her voice, Chelsea gathered her thoughts and ideas and started to do her own music. Now a solo artist, Chelsea is releasing her new record "I’m that Girl."(Available online and in some stores) Chelsea's 13 song CD could be best described as Urban/Pop containing a mix of hot, sultry beats, with vocals immersed in urban music. With the new album’s tantalizing club beats from such tracks as "Come Holla At Me" and "Ooh-aah" and heart-melting ballads like "Was it me" and "I’ll be your lover" it would appear as though going solo was the right thing to do. According to Music Connection Magazine (Demo Critiques) they considered her songwriting to be "Impressive in so many ways. Extremely hooky, catchy material performed with professional precision, and the right amount of sass..." Chelsea, a native-born Filipino with Spanish and Chinese roots, was raised in sunny California and has lived in Los Angeles since the age of five. Chelsea graduated from L.A. County High School for the Arts where she studied voice, dance, and theater. Here’s a fun fact: Chelsea went to high school with singer Josh Groban, and performed in the musical called Fiddler on the Roof with him during her senior year. Besides performing at just about every venue in and around L.A., Chelsea has written and co-written nearly 40 songs to date, and has recorded close to 100 songs throughout her young career. Having spent hundreds of hours in the studio working on tracks, recording, and collaborating with many well-known producers, (George Brown of Kool & the Gang, Frank Busey of Motown notoriety, Big Tony Detiege from Dave Koz gold, Dan (The man) Jenks, Kurtis (Magic) Williams, Maurice Gainen, Rye Randa as well as many new, up and coming producers) Chelsea has become a seasoned pro. When asked about her first solo record, Chelsea responded, "Music has the power to move people emotionally and spiritually. I was only eight when I first realized the affect my voice had on family members and friends. I just love to sing. It made me feel good and that's why I did it. However it wasn’t until I started singing at church did I really understand the power of music. After mass, people would approach me in tears, thanking me over and over. Wow, what an amazing feeling! Humbling! Having the ability to evoke feelings, and stir up emotions with music is such a powerful gift. So with this in mind I made sure to dig down deep and be as real as possible as to who I am in my songs. Of course, some of the songs were written by other writers and the themes are from a male point of view. But the songs are edgy great. " Chelsea fun facts: Most exciting musical experiences: Chelsea sang back-up for Kool & the Gang at the Hollywood Bowl for over 18,000 people singing their hits "Ladies Night" and "Celebration." She also performed at the Apollo and got a great response from a usually tough to please crowd. To this day, Chelsea remembers that it was not only an exciting experience, but also one of the most intimidating performances of her life. Chelsea was also a contestant on Fox’s prime time hit show "30 Seconds to Fame." Here’s a fun fact: During rehearsals at the show, Chelsea and her group mates (SX4) were doing their set, singing their song. They sang harmony so flawlessly, that the producer stopped the rehearsal, and made them sing acappella to make sure that they weren’t lip-synching to their own music. After he realized they really were singing live, he mumbled, "I guess they really can sing!"
